what matters more , IMHO, is some of the basic skills like motivation, hunger for goal, work ethic, stress management etc which typically is categorized as life skills. Which are not teachable.
Immigrants have these in plenty, that probably explains why a graduate from village school in India, can kick ass in a duke and later succeed at work too.
Education helps, quality education starts one off with advantage. But that's about it...life is marathon not a 4-6 year sprint @ universities.
These studies by wadhwa and co should start looking at these and not just patents , quality of education etc .

You can check status of your case on line:

It will show you "Last Updated Date". Soft LUD means status of case is not changed but they updated LUD, virtually means they touched your file.

Guys good news from my side. Just got most awaited Card production Ordered emails for my wife and my son. I have not received the email for myself though. When I checked the status on Case Status Online site, I found that 485 for all three of us have been approved.
My priority date was Oct 2004 at NSC. Came to US in Feb 2000, so almost 8.5 years of waiting is finally finally over. I hope that NSC picks up the pace and approve all the people who are current.
Trust me!! I am not going anywhere. I will enjoy my green but at the same time will always work relentlessly to get the immigration reforms. I also prey from God almighty that all my friends/family members stuck in EB2/EB3 will also get their GC ASAP.
Wish you all the best, even though I have crossed the fence towards the greener pasture, I am always there to lend you a hand and help you climb up and jump across the fence.

I dont think I said anywhere in my post that I don't want "someone else to have the equal right to get benefit"...
What I actually said was in fact that everyone (not just some lucky ones) should have the equal right to get fair benefit within the scope of the existing set of rules that USCIS has itself put in place (Honoring PDs etc).
Please read posts carefully before commenting. And I personally usually refrain from giving red dots and comments in the backgroudd (Somehow it just seems a bit cowardly to me..but that's just my personal opinion).
And as far as bas*$%^&d, it was just a way of expression...Haven't you heard the phrase "You lucky bastard"
...although I agree people could percieve some element of frustration in there...and hence the 'no offence' additive in the brackets in my original post.
I would rather be frustrated at USCIS which richly deserves everone's anger/frustration, than at some unknown lucky bas*$%^&d :D

There are many members who think IV and other members are fighting for re-reversal of VB or increase in visa number for 2007....
why dont they understand that we are fighting to avoid rejection, we are not asking them to re-revise bulletin, all we want is just accept the application without rejecting them, so that we can save ourselves from loosing money and time. dont make fun of IV and other members who's putting their efforts in it, no matter what the result is. if you dont want to participate please stop visiting this forum.

Its not a rumor. This is real. Coming to think abt it, he had filed a labor in 2000/2001 time period and had abandoned it when he switched companies. I am wondering if USCIS takes the oldest one an applicant had ever filed.

At least I won't give u red dots if you can enlighten us how to get us out of this mess. And yes, we do want our green card so I don't think we can stop the process or stop spending money on that. Also please advise us how to bring all 70K people under one umbrella?
Sanjeev - I personally feel there is no easy solution for this. Our efforts must be well organized and there has to be geniune effort. A lot of people who post here are all frustrated and angered and they channelize their anger and frustration through these forums whereas instead if it is channelized in a positive way - our campaigns will be more effective and we can reach our goals.

In the past, we have sent emails and webfaxes to senators only to get canned- pre typed responses. Recently, I have realised that senators favour written letters, posted (with postage stamp) especially if it comes from constituents from their state. Same with house reps. I have talked to my senator's staff and they have advised me to write a letter. The staff member said, letters are always read, and responded.
Senator will send an inquiry to the appropriate agency. This will create an impact, if all of us write letters. I have written a letter about USCIS Visa- flip flop to my senators.

I am not 100% sure but if person has not completed 6 years, he can continue till he completes 6 years. If person has already crossed 6 years limit, H1 extension or transfer does not stand valid without any underlying pending AOS. This is what RG termed as opposite to conventional internet wisdom. Also, the law requires to provide a notice to cancel EAD, but not to cancel H1B. Correct me if I am wrong!

H1b and AOS are two differnt things and are not coupled. A yearly h1b extension beyond 6 years is given if you have a Labor pending for more than an year or pending 140 more than one year and a 3 year h1b extension is granted if you have an approved 140.
So the basis of getting a h1b extension or transfer is 140 and not AOS. One may not have even applied for AOS but can get h1 extensions as long as the above conditions are satisfied.
This is based on what I know. Thats why Attorneys prefer h1b compared to EAd because h1b essentially gives time for you to change jobs/apply for new GC petition in case existing petition has tons of issues etc...

I feel that initiator of this thread is not trying a coup d'�tat. He is merely pointing to the fact that every organization runs by elected officials. Having a life term president and core group is only heard in autocratic systems but not in a democratic one. What are we as an organization?
Why are we afraid of discussing new ideas? Why shouldn't we open up IV organization for elections? There is nothing wrong in declaring the rules and then playing by those rules.

My guess is that they moved the dates so that any one missed the train in jul 2007 will be able to file 485 and/or add spouses to the existing applications. Looks like it will remain there for some time atleast, may be till the year end.

Now the Jul/07 filers will not receive 2 yrs EAD since the PD is current and there is very less chance that they will receive GC. So USCIS plays a good game.. they will have more chance next year to milk money from Jul07 filers as they will have to renew EAD/AP again next year...
